Our Doug is a handsome silver French Bulldog who came to us after a close call with a vet’s needle. He is seeking a home who can give him a bit of understanding. He is simply gorgeous, a handsome lad with sleek soft fur that is mostly silver except for the white line that travels from his chin down to his tummy. His typical tailless Frenchie bottom is always wiggling in happiness when he sees his favourite people.

Doug’s story was not the usual surrender case; he arrived from a veterinary clinic that was urgently seeking help. His previous owner had left him there to be euthanized, but as Doug sat on the table and gently offered his paw to the technician holding the needle, they found themselves unable to proceed. Overwhelmed with emotion, the veterinary staff contacted every rescue they knew, hoping to find a reprieve for this lovely boy.

Our team travelled two hours to retrieve Doug. The moment he hopped into the car, he took the front seat, curious about his new journey. He affectionately doled out kisses to anyone within reach. Upon arrival at our kennels, Doug settled quickly, prompting us to unravel the mystery of his unfortunate abandonment.

It’s evident that Doug’s previous owners didn’t invest much time in his training. He would pull on the leash, react to other dogs, and knew only the most basic commands. However, after some consistent training, Doug now walks well on a leash using a double lead and harness. He remains somewhat cautious around other dogs, so we plan to rehome him as an only pet.

Doug’s new home will need to be prepared to continue the work we have put into him. He will need boundaries and routine in order to thrive. He is quirky and playful with people he trusts and would make a fantastic companion animal with the right owner.

Doug relishes his outdoor adventures, eagerly sniffing at every intriguing scent and taking his time to enjoy the walk. He’s become a great walking buddy since he’s figured out that tugging on the lead only ends in dizzying circles. A home with an enclosed garden would be perfect so that he has a space to play with toys, enjoy the sun and explore.

A crate would be an important addition to his forever home. Doug enjoys having a little bedroom all to himself where he can go to be left alone, although he is a people dog at heart so a dog bed in the living room or a spot on the sofa would be nice also.

Doug doesn’t have much experience with children and at this stage we would ideally see him in a child-free home. Older teenagers shouldn’t be a problem but ideally his home would be with adults.
