Lovely little Leena is a shy girl looking for a home that will give her the time and patience she needs to come out of her shell and reveal the warm, gentle centre she keeps hidden away. Leena is small in size, similar to a small Terrier, but once she feels comfortable, you’ll see she has a heart as big as a Great Dane.

She was surrendered for rehoming by her previous owner, who felt they could not give her the attention she requires. Although she was given a diagnosis of separation anxiety, this doesn’t appear to be the case. Leena is simply slow to warm up to new people and can be nervous at first. What she truly needs is another dog in the home. We placed her with an experienced foster family, where she quickly became firm friends with the three Bulldogs in residence. After a few days, she learned from them that the “scary” people walking around the house were actually very kind, and she soon found herself curling up in her foster carer’s lap for an afternoon snooze.

Leena can live with cats, as she did in her previous home, but she really does need to be rehomed with an existing dog. She may take her time to build trust, but once she has decided you’re safe, she is a gentle, affectionate girl. She loves playing with other dogs and isn’t intimidated by size, she regularly wrestles with a visiting Boxer who is easily twice her size.

Now that she has grown in confidence in foster care, she has started going out for walks. She prefers to walk slightly ahead on the lead, but given her small size, she doesn’t have much pulling power. With a little training, she will learn to walk nicely to heel, and the training itself may help to build her confidence further.

We feel that very young children might be overwhelming for her initially. Therefore, we would prefer any children in the home to be aged 12 or over, so they can understand that she may need a little space and patience at first.
