Meet Lara — a beautiful, very special 4-year-old girl who has been through far more than she ever deserved.
Lara was adopted as a tiny puppy in 2022 and went to a wonderful family who absolutely adored her. What nobody expected was just how much she would grow! Lara is now a very impressive 48kg, and is believed to possibly be an Akbash-type dog.
Sadly, things changed last year following an incident where Lara became very excited and jumped up, accidentally scratching a visitor. The police became involved and a VCO (Voluntary Control Order) was put in place, with Lara’s family following the advice given, including walking her in a muzzle and harness.
Her owner, a farmer with plenty of land, did everything he could to manage her safely and would take Lara out on quieter routes and at quieter times.
Unfortunately, one day while walking, a jogger approached from behind with an off-lead dog. Lara was startled, spun around and pulled her owner off balance. The other dog approached Lara and, in the confusion, Lara nipped the dog’s ear.
This resulted in a further case, and ultimately the family were told that Lara had to be returned to rescue or a destruction order would be sought. 💔
Since May, we have fought hard to find a safe resolution for this lovely girl. We had hoped that she might eventually be able to return home to the family who miss her terribly — including the grandchildren she adored and who adored her. ❤️
Sadly, that has not been possible, and Lara now needs us to find her a new home.
Lara has been with us and, although she cried for her family for a long time, she has gradually settled. She spends her days watching us in the fields and patiently taking everything in.
She absolutely loves her food and treats and has lost around 5kg since coming into rescue. She is now in fabulous condition.
And there is something really lovely about Lara — she is dog friendly. Other dogs generally love her, particularly the younger ones, and she has happily settled around them. 🐾❤️
Despite her size, Lara isn’t a high-energy dog. She enjoys a wander and would be happiest with space to explore at her own pace.
Lara needs a very special home with plenty of space — ideally a farm, smallholding, large secure garden or rural property.
She would love:
🐾 Land to potter and wander around
🐾 A quiet rural environment
🐾 Human companionship and someone around to enjoy life with
🐾 Someone who understands large, independent breeds
🐾 A safe and secure set-up where she can relax and be herself
She has previously enjoyed coming into the kitchen to warm up during the winter, although she has also been perfectly happy spending time in a stable with straw.
She could make a wonderful companion for someone with land. She’ll happily have her daily wander, watch over her surroundings and then settle down and enjoy some food, treats and affection. ❤️
Lara is 4 years old, spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.
She is not cat tested.
We appreciate that Lara’s requirements are a little unconventional — but unconventional does not mean impossible. ❤️🐾
She is not looking for a perfect home. She is looking for the right home.
A home where her size isn’t a problem.
A home where her past doesn’t define her.
A home where she can finally settle and be loved for the wonderful girl she is.
Please help us find Lara her forever. ❤️
Could you offer Lara the kind of home she needs? Or perhaps you know someone with land who might be the perfect person for this big, beautiful girl?
Adoption applications are the first step, followed by home checks.
Lara is just a big girl looking for her forever. 🐾❤️
