In a world full of dogs named Buddy, how do we make this one stand out? Simple—we call him “Buddy with the ears,” and for good reason! Buddy is a large, slim-built dog with striking amber eyes and a distinct, noble stature. If you’re a fan of Egyptian history, you might think he bears a resemblance to Anubis, the God of the Underworld. But in reality, Buddy is a gentle giant and an absolute treasure.
Buddy’s journey to safety began when our volunteers rescued him from a kill shelter in Romania, captivated by his gentle and loving nature. He is a patient and sweet young dog with an abundance of affection to share. During his time with us in the kennels, Buddy has been an absolute joy on walks. For safety, we use a martingale collar paired with a slip lead, and he happily ambles along, nose to the ground, exploring his surroundings. Unbothered by traffic and even walked by chickens and peacocks without a bother, Buddy would make an excellent walking companion for his future owner.
Currently, Buddy is in the Isle of Wight, but we are happy to arrange transport to the UK following a successful application. He was previously placed in a home there, but it wasn’t well-suited to the unique needs of a rescue dog. Dogs like Buddy often come from environments where they’ve had very little, so it’s crucial to introduce them to new experiences gradually. While the urge to spoil them is understandable, structure and patience are key. Crate training, in particular, can be a great tool to give Buddy a safe, quiet space to retreat when things feel overwhelming.
Buddy would happily share a home with another dog, as he interacts wonderfully with his canine companions. He enjoys a good play session, so we recommend a dog of similar size to ensure compatibility—after all, Buddy’s playful energy might accidentally overwhelm a smaller dog. While in Romania, he was introduced to cats and showed no reaction beyond a gentle sniff, content to let them go about their business.
Buddy will celebrate his third birthday on December 22nd. He’s well past the mouthy puppy phase but still has plenty to learn. Being a smart dog, he would benefit greatly from some one-on-one training to help him reach his full potential. Described as “just a big soft lad,” Buddy is ready to find a loving home where he can truly thrive.
Buddy truly doesn’t have a bad bone in his body—he’s just waiting for someone who’s willing to work with us to help set him up for success in his forever home!
