Meet Gunner, or as we like to call him, “Gunner the Stunner.” This small but mighty mixed breed may not take up much room in your home, but he’ll surely take up a huge space in your heart. Gunner has a stunning golden coat that’s soft to the touch, complemented by dark eyes that sparkle with a mischievous gleam.

Gunner’s journey with us began after a concerned member of the public noticed a small stray sneaking into an elderly woman’s garden. Despite being chased off, Gunner would always return. We soon discovered that he was seeking refuge from larger street dogs that had been bullying him. Without help, it’s likely that Gunner wouldn’t have lasted much longer on his own.

At the kennels, Gunner has shown a bit of “small dog syndrome.” He’s not fond of other dogs, particularly larger ones. This behaviour likely stems from his difficult past on the streets, where he had to fend for himself and protect his food and shelter. Because of this, we believe Gunner would be best suited as the only dog in the home. With some consistent training and confidence building, Gunner could learn to walk alongside other dogs outside the house, but it’s clear he simply prefers his own space. He hasn’t been cat-tested yet, but we can arrange this for any prospective owner.

When it comes to people, Gunner is a whole different character. He enjoys being fussed over and takes treats gently. While he can be a little shy at first, with a little reassurance, he quickly becomes a trusting, sweet gentleman. Gunner would make an ideal companion for anyone looking for a cosy lap warmer. Due to his small size, he doesn’t need a large outdoor space and would be perfectly content with a small yard to explore and soak up the sun in the summer.

Gunner has shown no negative behaviour towards children, so we believe he’d be fine in a home with children over 8 years old. Ideally, we’d recommend a family with some prior dog experience, though this isn’t a strict requirement. Gunner is a simple soul with simple needs – a cosy bed, a few toys, and plenty of snuggles are all he asks for.
