Lovely Jack – who could ask for more? Jack is a gorgeous medium-sized gent with a stunning black coat that gleams in the sun, beautiful chestnut eyes, and a sweet, gentle nature that would make him the perfect addition to many households.
He was one of the lucky escapees from the kill shelter in Lacram, Romania. Though he looked a little pitiful in his crate, the moment he was released into the fresh air, he lit up. Jack is a calm soul who adores a gentle stroke under his chin. While he may appear small in photos, he’s actually close in size to a Labrador, and just as loving.
As Jack came from a kill shelter, we don’t know much about his past. However, given his ease around people, it’s quite possible he once had a home before being abandoned.
Jack is a great option for anyone looking to add to an existing pack. He gets on well with other dogs and would happily share his future home with a canine companion. A doggy sibling would also help him settle into the routines of home life. That said, Jack would also be content as the only dog in the home, he’s an active boy, so a garden where he can run, play, and enjoy his toys between walks would be ideal.
Cats are no problem for Jack. During his initial vet visit, he met the clinic cat and paid her no mind. We’ve also further cat-tested him at our foster kennels, and he’s shown little to no interest beyond a gentle sniff. Ideally, any cats in the home will be dog-savvy, just to avoid any surprises.
Jack would be fine in a home with children, too. He’s naturally gentle and, even when excited, he isn’t overly boisterous. We’d recommend any children be over “knock-down” age, just to be safe.
Jack isn’t quite used to walking on a lead yet, so he’ll need a bit of training in that area. But he’s a smart boy and eager to learn, he’d likely enjoy picking up a few new tricks along the way!
We feel an active family would suit Jack best. He loves fun and play, but he’s just as happy pottering about the garden before curling up for a snooze.
As with any rescue dog, Jack will need time to settle into his new home. Dogs who’ve come from difficult situations like Jack can quickly become overwhelmed, so it’s important to give him time to decompress and adjust at his own pace. As tempting as it may be to spoil him right away, it’s best to give him a few quiet days to settle in. A crate will provide a much-needed retreat where Jack can enjoy some alone time and a cosy place to sleep.
