Who could resist those pleading eyes? Labradors are known for many things – their loyalty, affection, and of course, that irresistible puppy-dog gaze.

Hetty was one of the lucky ones. She and her puppies made a brave escape from a kill shelter in Lacram, Romania. Heartbreakingly, not long after their rescue, Hetty lost all her puppies to parvovirus. Now on her own, Hetty is hoping to find the loving forever home she so deserves – a place where she can finally feel the warmth and affection she’s been missing.

She’s currently in foster care with other dogs and has been described by her foster carer as “a perfect dog for any family”. She’s wonderfully tolerant of the younger dogs and shares her space peacefully with older ones, making her an ideal companion for a household that already has a dog. Hetty adores human attention and is always ready for a gentle stroke or cuddle, so she’d also be a lovely match for someone living alone or a couple seeking a devoted four-legged friend.

Although much of Hetty’s past is a mystery, her gentle manner and ease with a collar and lead suggest she once had a home. Her calm behaviour around children adds to the impression that she may have been a cherished family pet – perhaps abandoned after becoming pregnant, or left behind when her family moved away.

Hetty is incredibly friendly and patient. We recommend that any children in her new home be over eight years old, simply so she has the space she needs to relax. A crate would give her a quiet, private retreat when she needs a break, though she’s such a people-lover that a cosy bed in the living room would no doubt be her favourite spot.

We haven’t yet been able to test Hetty with cats, but given her calm and gentle nature, we’d be happy to arrange a cat test if needed.
