Ralph is our lovely big lad, a loyal watchdog with a heart of gold. He’s a stunning mix of Retriever, Pyrenean Mountain Dog, and something else that’s just all Ralph. His gorgeous blonde fur blowing in the wind and his soulful brown eyes make him utterly irresistible to our kennel staff, who all adore him.

We’ve joked about installing a revolving door on Ralph’s kennel. He has had a few homes, but none have truly understood him or been willing to commit to a long-term plan. Each time, Ralph happily returns to us, as if he thinks he’s just been on a short holiday before coming back home. While we love having him with us, we know that what he really needs is a forever family—one that will be patient, committed, and willing to embrace him for the lovely dog that he is. He deserves a home where he can finally settle, without the worry of packing his bags yet again.

Because Ralph has built a strong bond with us, we see him for the lovely lad he truly is. He loves to watch over “his land,” which is typical for Pyrenean breeds. On walks, he enjoys stopping at the top of the hill, poking his head over the wall to survey the fields and make sure everything is in order. He walks beautifully on a lead with a muzzle or Halti and isn’t dog-aggressive, though he prefers his space. Ralph can be unsure around unfamiliar dogs and takes time to warm up. Ideally, he would love to be the only dog in the home so he can soak up all the attention.

Originally rescued from Macedonia, Ralph was found living as a street dog near a local dump. He was severely malnourished, and his fur was matted, but today, he’s in fantastic condition and thrives on a healthy raw food diet. He does, however, prefer to eat alone and can be protective over his food but always makes sure to take treats gently.

We’re looking for an adopter with experience handling large breeds. Ralph can be a little aloof with strangers, preferring to approach in his own time. But with people he trusts, he’s a total lovebug, often resting his head on your leg for a fuss.

When he’s not surveying his surroundings, Ralph absolutely loves his crate. He happily curls up in his bed for a snooze, especially if he has a buffalo horn or pig’s ear to munch on. He’s a very clean boy and never messes in his crate or kennel.

We truly hope Ralph finds his perfect home soon. As much as he loves seeing us every morning, we can tell he’s losing enthusiasm for kennel life. He enjoys joining us in the office, soaking up individual attention. This special boy deserves a family who will finally give him the stability and love he needs.
